Introduction to Tilopa Tai Chi and Qigong School

The focus of our school is on the deeper healing and classical meditative arts of Tai Chi Chuan (Taijichuan) and Qigong (Chi Kung, Chi Gong) as it relates to the lineage of our
Grand Long Form Tai Chi Chuan.
This is a brief introduction for understanding our discipline.

Follow the links above for more information and a Registration Form regarding our upcoming classes and special Maui, Hawaii Classes and Retreats.
Classes for Beginners open periodically, as my schedule permits, since they form a new ongoing study group that receives a great deal of personal attention and instruction.

The Tilopa Tai Chi Qigong Minneapolis Center has been teaching Tai Chi Classes throughout the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota area since 1977.
Our Tai Chi Qigong Center has taught over 10,000 students. Our Maui Tai Chi Center opened in 1997, in Maui, Hawaii.  Marilyn Allysum, Director, has been teaching Tai Chi and Qigong for over 33 years.

We use a caring and individualized approach to Tai Chi (Taiji) and Qigong (Chi Kung, Chi Gong) practices, which allows each student the necessary personal attention to master this art at their own rate of learning. As you begin your studies, your training continues weekly through the Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced stage of your personal development. As your foundation grows, it will begin to blossom into all of your life activities.

Tai Chi Taoist Philosophies, breathing techniques, energy balancing, and meridian pathways are explained thoroughly and are always taught as an integral part of our classes. Each student is given the necessary components to grasp the deeper meditative and healing aspects of this yoga of Body/Mind/Spirit working in Harmony.

We employ Posture, Movement, Breathing, Meditation, Mind, and Conscious Intent to refine the life energy, gather and accumulate it, and circulate it to wherever it is needed.
Balance, Coordination, Flexibility, Calmness, Strength and Mental Alertness Increase by utilizing this process.

Our Center is the only one of its kind, offering you this Total Approach to learning the Complete Grand Long Form of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong that is patterned on the “old style” training, as developed by the Chen Family Tradition.

The flowing movements of this Internal Art strengthen us both internally and externally without force:
"
Wind Blows Through Lotus Leaf, Wild Horse Flings Its Mane, Embrace Tiger and Return to Mountain, Wave Hands Like Clouds....."

You will learn a series of postures that unite with the proper breathing techniques and meridians (internal energy pathways of the body) that together constitute a clear way to gather and restore Qi to the whole body network.

“I appreciate this Tai Chi course and the DVD very much. It’s hard to describe, but I’ll try to explain; I just feel better and the chronic difficult hip has stopped hurting.”

At Tilopa Tai Chi Qigong Center we never rush. It is my sincere wish to honor the integrity and deeper science and life principles as they have been taught to me by the Grand Masters.

At Tilopa Tai Chi Qigong Center, we are dedicated to the old and careful training methods of the Masters, to attune each individual to this highly detailed and integral approach where We Force Nothing, Yet Leave Nothing Undone...so that we may understand and fully live the Inner Aspects and philosophies of the Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong.

The physical, mental, and spiritual health benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong come from daily practice and a thorough understanding of the movements.
At Tilopa Tai Chi Qigong Center we know that learning slowly takes patience...and we teach in this style as well, patiently...with mutual respect.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to class. We work barefoot on hardwood floors. A flat soled indoor training shoe may be worn.
Tea is served at the close of our lessons together.
If there are any special needs, please do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,
Marilyn Allysum

Stress Reduction and Other Benefits of Tai Chi (Taiji) *
  (Mayo Clinic research, see
Links page for more info)

Like other practices that bring mind and body together, Tai Chi can reduce stress. During Tai Chi, you focus on movement and breathing. This combination creates a state of relaxation and calm. Stress, anxiety and tension should melt away as you focus on the present, and the effects may last well after you stop your Tai Chi session.

Tai Chi may also help your overall health, although it’s not a substitute for traditional medical care. Tai Chi is generally safe for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Older adults may especially find Tai Chi appealing because the movements are low impact and put minimal stress on joints. Tai Chi may also be helpful if you have arthritis or are recovering from an injury.

Despite its Ancient History, Tai Chi has been studied scientifically only in recent years. And that research is suggesting that Tai Chi may offer numerous other benefits beyond stress reduction, including:

·        Reducing anxiety and depression

·        Improving balance and coordination

·        Improving cardiovascular fitness

·        Improving sleep quality, such as staying asleep longer at night and feeling more alert during the day

·        Slowing bone loss in women after menopause

·        Lowering blood pressure

·        Relieving chronic pain

·        Reducing the number of falls

·        Improving everyday physical functioning
